Owned by English Heritage and good for a family day out because there’s plenty to see and do. The Little Castle was built as a very extravagant playboy retreat and you can still see the sumptuous rooms with their richly painted ceilings and wall art; children will enjoy discovering the delights in the Cabinets of Curiosity.  Stroll along the Wall Walk and look down onto the Fountain Garden designed around an exquisite statue of Venus, admire the spectacular views over the Vale of Scarsdale from the roofless Terrace Range, walk through the gardens with fan trained fruit trees and colourful borders. There’s even an Indoor Riding School where you can see cavalier horsemanship displays, and for when you’re feeling peckish, there’s a café where you can tuck into a hearty slice of home made cake. Dogs are welcome in the grounds on leads.
