Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Derbyshire

If ever there was a perfect example of a medieval and Tudor manor house, this is it; an absolute dream on the banks of the River Wye with gorgeous views of the Peak District. Roses scramble up the walls and the terraced garden is exquisite; it makes you sigh it’s that idyllic. You’ll want to spend ages here so take your time and see the medieval kitchen, the rare 15th century frescoes in the Chapel, the French tapestries in the Banqueting Hall, and the beautiful Elizabethan long gallery. Stroll around the grounds, linger over a cup of tea and a light lunch in the restaurant, go to the gift shops and buy something nice to take home. They don’t allow dogs, other than guide dogs, and they do discounts for groups of 15 or more.
